ORReady Intro

Recognized as an innovative contribution to the field of CME, ORReady has been selected for the ACME 2011 Medical Specialty Societies Member Section Great Idea Award. The objective of the ORReady Initiative is to improve surgical outcomes worldwide and to be a hub of information for surgeons, nurses, and OR personnel; and hospitals and surgical facilities that want to become CentersofMerit for surgical safety. Implementation of the ORReady’s simple, proven protocols could help OR teams work together to reduce errors and complications and in turn improve outcomes for patients globally. Various forms of the steps suggested in ORReady have been adopted by top centers, surgeons, and nurses in multiple specialties, reducing their errors by 40% and cutting deaths in half. It is estimated that 250 million surgeries are performed each year. If guidelines suggested in ORReady have just a 2-3 percent impact on patient outcome, it is estimated that more than 6 million patients around the world could have better outcomes each year.
