Ray Garry:  You are elected as vice president of the International Society yesterday.  Could you tell us what that feels like?

 

Steffano Bettocchi:  That was, let’s say good surprise because it’s always an election means that you are fighting against some others and obviously I was second anyway.  I think it would be a great challenge for the future for me and for the society.  Obviously, my main job now is to help the work of our president because this has to be the job of the vice president and anyway it may be to give him some inputs to prepare in the future.

 

Ray Garry:  What would be your philosophy?  What do you want, how do you want ISGE to develop?

 

Steffano Bettocchi:  For sure, I would like to have the society more stable.  Let’s say, we have to grant the society stable income in terms of money, so we do not have to be relayed by the meetings, we need to have support from company, the support from the meeting in order to establish a fixed amount of money on which activity of the society can be raised.

Ray Garry:  Proper budgeting?

 

Steffano Bettocchi:  Yeah, proper budgeting.

 

Ray Garry:  Yeah, I think that’s very important and do you see any way should the society going to develop?

 

Steffano Bettocchi:  Well, I have been always in favor of not fighting against any other society or any other structures.  Obviously, this does not mean that we have to be observed by somebody else.  My idea is that we have to communicate on the right level, face-to-face on the same say, quality of power and labour with the other society.  I think this is the future for everybody, i.e., time is changing; companies are not anymore able to support such a big amount of society, so we have to find an arrangement between the society and maintaining our own identity.

 

Ray Garry:  I have been very impressive at the meeting here in Osaka that how the society seems to be getting a new stability.  We have a new secretariat, a new team with yourself  Peter Maher and so it is a really exciting new development, the web site is being developed amazingly by Tamer and his colleagues and I am again he was trying to make a news letter and a journal that will be truly a means of communication, so I think one of our problems is the difficulty with our members to know what is going on.

 

Steffano Bettocchi:  Since we are in International Society, so we are covering the whole world.

 

Ray Garry:  Absolutely, without very efficient communication system, people will remain in the dark even in areas where they has been doing good work; a lot of people do not know that.  So, I think you are a part of an exciting new team that I believe will take ISGE not just stable, which is an admirable first step, I agree, but I think upwards.

 

Steffano Bettocchi:  Yeah, it is a big chunk for the future and for sure, I mean if you look around all the companies, all the activities are based on, I mean you see the quality of the company, the quality of the job from everybody, by the quality of the web site because today it has been on the web site, its your business card.  The way you present the society and obviously being a world wide society, international society, it’s difficult for people to get in time the right information released by me.  So, the web site, say it is our common room, the place where people saw and really in favor of increasing everything but increasing also the website, the power on the website.
