The Board of ISGE wishes to pay special tribute to Ray Garry because of his lifetime achievements in advancing the practise of gynaecological endoscopic surgery. Ray has retired from clinical practice so it is particularly appropriate at this point that we draw attention to his life work achievements.
Ray has consistently been one of the leaders within the laparoscopic revolution since the early 1990’s and has been at the forefront of teaching and innovation within the discipline of gynaecological endoscopic surgery. Perhaps his greatest contribution however has been in applying academic rigor to what otherwise can be considered an art. It is that academic rigor that has helped keep the rest of us as clinicians honest, effective and relevant.
Ray has always conducted himself as a gentleman of highest integrity. His considered and honest approach to all that he does has significantly helped the development of ISGE as an organisation over the years. He has always been a voice of wisdom and optimism, particularly when the Society traversed difficult times over the years. His calm reasoning and knowledge of the ISGE constitution has helped the Society make better decisions than it may otherwise have made and those decisions now stand it in good stead for the future.
We wish Ray all the very best in his retirement which we expect will be just as busy as his professional life has been. We hope that we can continue to call upon his wisdom and that he will be able to attend ISGE meetings long into the future. Ray will always be a voice worth listening to.
