1. Introduction
Following the discussion and commitment between The President of APAGE, dr. Sevellaraja Supermaniam and the President of the Board of Trustees prof. Chyi-Long Lee, and the President of International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (ISGE) Prof. Prashant Mangeshikar MD and the ISGE Medical Director Ornella Sizzi, after the 1st APAGE – ISGE International Advanced Suturing for Laparoscopy Workshop held in Kuala Lumpur, we are pleased that the event The International Advanced Suturing for Laparoscopy Workshop, have been done succesfully for the first time.
The speakers of this 1rst Workshop were the world reknown experts in laparoscopy surgery and ISGE Board members. They are: Prof Prashant Mangeshikar MD [India], Ornella Sizzi MD [Italy], Alfonso Rossetti MD [Italy] and Dr. Pranay Shah (India). This workshop was focused on the advanced suturing skill of laparoscopy field. We invited participants who already had experiences as laparoscopic surgeon, and are interested in developing their suturing skill further. In this event we were exclusively sponsor by STORZ company and fully back up by their Malaysian dealers. They provided us with 12 Storz traning camera packs.
2. Target Audience & Course Objectives
A) Target: This course provides an overview of laparascopic suturing skills as well as fundamentals of laparascopic surgery, so that the audience can improve their skill in order to expand their laparoscopic abilities.
B) Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to :
- Determine the use of laparascopic suturing in variety cases
- Perform advanced suturing techniques
- Apply intracorporeal and extracorporeal suturing techniques to overcome the difficulty in laparascopic.
3. Course Structure
The technology surrounding surgical laparoscopy has evolved rapidly. The backbone of the these major improvements in recent years are the instruments, however the need of good suturing skills are still mandatory. This course is designed to provide a limited number of participants with total hands-on experience using the most current technologies available for laparoscopic suturing and knotting. The course is intended for practicing OB-GYN surgeons who are familiar with basic laparoscopic skills & gynecological procedures but still want to improve their skills in laparoscopic suturing.
The course materials were given through lectures, video presentations, and hands-on sessions.
